Our Mission & Vision

Empowering the Samburu community through education, mental health support, and sustainable resilience.

Our Purpose

Mission & Vision

"Our mission is to create a supportive environment that educates and empowers teenagers’ and women facing mental health challenges and provide means for future individual life sustainability."

We envision a community where mental health is openly discussed, and individuals are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to manage their mental well-being effectively.

Through our initiatives, we strive to break down the stigma surrounding mental health and provide practical solutions that address both immediate and long-term needs to promote individual’s quality life.

Nasaruni mission and vision

Core Objectives

The pillars of our work in Samburu East.

Mental Health Awareness

Raising awareness about issues affecting teenagers and women, exacerbated by socio-economic challenges. We educate on recognizing symptoms and seeking help in a culturally sensitive manner.

Training & Mentorship

Comprehensive programs for illiterate Samburu women, emphasizing personal and menstrual hygiene and its critical connection to mental health and overall well-being.

Community Empowerment

Fostering a culture of support by engaging local leaders and residents. We build networks of understanding through workshops, discussions, and community events.

Environmental Resilience

Tackling the Mental Health Impact of Climate Change

Climate change has had significant, long-lasting effects on our environment, culture, and way of life. In Samburu East, this manifests in more frequent droughts, unpredictable weather patterns, and a dwindling natural resource base.

These environmental changes are exacerbating the challenges already faced by many Samburu women, including poverty, food insecurity, and heightened stress due to lost livelihoods, which are often linked to livestock and agriculture.

We address the specific mental health consequences of climate change for our community. By focusing on the intersection of environmental degradation and mental well-being, we aim to empower Samburu women to manage the emotional, economic, and psychological toll.

Our Roots

Established in 2024

Founded in early 2024, Nasaruni Initiative emerged from a collective desire among young leaders in Wamba to tackle the silent crises of mental health and gender-based violence within our community.

We recognized that teenagers and women, especially those facing literacy barriers, were often left behind in traditional development models. Our unique advantage lies in our deep cultural understanding and shared lived experiences as Samburu youth.
